Genioplasty

When the chin is too short or too long, alteration of the chin position is done.

Procedure

This is done under general anaesthesia in our ambulatory surgery center as day surgery. The surgery is done inside the mouth with no extraoral skin incisions and the majority of bone healing will take place over 6 weeks. There will be swelling and possibly bruising for the first week and this will slowly subside.  Genioplasty is also often done with other major skeletal corrective surgeries… orthognathic surgery. The advantage of genioplasty over implants inserted into the chin is the improved profile and lack of potential issues related to delayed infection. This sometimes occurs when cosmetic implants are placed into the chin.
