Meet Dr. Sorochan

Dr. Sorochan has been practicing the speciality of oral and maxillofacial surgery in Nanaimo since 1983. He was born in Yorkton, Saskatchewan and eventually moved to Winnipeg, Manitoba where he obtained his B.Sc. in Zoology from the University of Manitoba in 1968. He then began his career in dentistry at the University of Manitoba graduating with a DMD in 1972. Over the next 5 years he served as a dentist with the Canadian Armed Forces with postings to CFB Moose Jaw and CFB Halifax. Once his commitment with the military was completed, he moved to Minneapolis Minnesota where he completed a residency program in oral and maxillofacial surgery in 1980. He then moved to Toronto, Ontario practicing oral and maxillofacial surgery there until 1983. He completed his fellowship from the Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Canada in 1983 and moved to Nanaimo where he has been practicing the full scope of oral and maxillofacial surgery. He is currently on active staff at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital with consulting privileges at Cowichan District Hospital and West Coast General Hospital on Vancouver Island. He has an affiliation with the Cancer Agency of British Columbia, has been Head of the Department of Dentistry for many of his years in Nanaimo, and has been the Chairman of the Operating Room Liaison Committee at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital for several years.

Dr. Sorochan has been involved politically with dentistry throughout his career. He is a Past President of the Canadian Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, and a Past President of the Nanaimo District Dental Society. He has been the oral and maxillofacial surgery representative for the British Columbia Dental Association in negotiations with Medical Services Plan and has won the Association's Distinguished Service Award. He has served as Provincial dental representative to the Medical Appeals Board for the College of Dental Surgeons of British Columbia for many years.
